In 1999, Makati Medical Center (MMC) was among the four institutions that entered into a public–private partnership to establish the MMC DOTS Clinic. This collaboration was formalized through a Memorandum of Agreement among the Tropical Disease Foundation (TDF) and MMC, representing the private sector, and Barangay San Lorenzo, together with the Department of Health, representing the public sector. The agreement reflected a shared commitment to implementing the Directly Observed Treatment, Short-course (DOTS) strategy in support of national tuberculosis control efforts.

Since the inception of this partnership, MMC has continued to support TDF by facilitating the admission and management of tuberculosis cases. Furthermore, as an institution accredited at Level 3 by the Philippine Health Research Ethics Board (PHREB), MMC provides ethical oversight for TDF’s clinical trials, with studies undergoing rigorous review and approval by its institutional ethics review board.
