Empowering TB Treatment

Latest LIFT-TB News

The Leveraging Innovations for Faster Treatment of Tuberculosis (LIFT-TB) Philippines was an initiative aimed at improving the treatment of drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) in the country. Supported by the TB Alliance (TBA), Research Institute of TB (RIT-South Korea) through KOICA, and KNCV, The Netherlands, the project was lauched in December 2020 and focused on broadening and accelerating the adoption of a novel treatment regimen, particularly the BPaL regimen, which is a six-month all-oral treatment, through the conduct of an operational research (OR) which has been successful in achieving a 98% treatment success rate among patients. The OR’s success demonstrated the effectiveness and safety of the regimen in local setting, paving the way towards the programmatic nationwide scale-up of the new DR-TB regimens. The five-year project officially concluded in December 2025 impactfully contributing in saving the lives and livelihoods of patients locally by providing a blueprint for an accessible, effective and patient-centered DR-TB treatment, and with its experience shared to the international community.

LIFT-TB was locally managed by the Tropical Disease Foundation, Inc in collaboration with the Disease Prevention and Control Bureau-DOH.
