Nichel Marquez, MD, MPH, is a public health professional with extensive experience in monitoring and evaluation (M&E), operations research, and health systems strengthening, with a focus on tuberculosis (TB), HIV, and non-communicable diseases. She joined Tropical Disease Foundation, Inc. in 2025 as an M&E and Operations Consultant, where she supports the development, implementation, and review of policies and research initiatives for TB and HIV programs. In this role, she conducts detailed data evaluations and analyses, applying qualitative and quantitative methods and advanced statistical techniques to support evidence-based decision-making. Dr. Marquez is also a Research Consultant at the Philippine Tuberculosis Society, Inc., where she supports the Health Research and Training Department in designing and implementing health research projects. Her work strengthens local research capacity and generates actionable evidence to inform TB program strategies and policy development. In addition, she serves as a Research Lead Consultant with R&G Public Relations and Communications Services for research studies conducted by Save the Children Philippines, where she provides technical oversight of research implementation to support advocacy objectives. Dr. Marquez has contributed to research and public health education as a guest faculty member at the Ateneo de Manila University School of Medicine and Public Health, sharing applied perspectives on research and public health practice.
Her professional experience also includes serving as an Operations Research Specialist for the USAID TB Innovations and Health Systems Strengthening Project in the Philippines, where she supported research to improve TB service delivery and health system performance. Internationally, she worked with the Gastric Unit of the National Cancer Center in South Korea while completing her Master of Public Health degree. Dr. Marquez also served as a consultant for the WHO Western Pacific Region, collaborating with the Departments of Non-communicable Diseases and the Expanded Program on Immunization. Her contributions included analyzing polio surveillance indicators, examining determinants of hypertension using STEPS survey data, and participating in research on the density of outdoor food and beverage advertising in the Philippines and its policy implications.
