Dr. Irene Alacar Flores is a Fellow of Family Medicine and Geriatric Medicine with extensive experience in tuberculosis care and research.
Dr. Flores is the Chairman of the Central Luzon Regional TB Medical Advisory Committee and a member of the National TB Medical Advisory Committee. She is also the Principal Investigator for the BPaL Operational Research in the Philippines under the LIFT TB Project.
She has more that 10 years of medical experience in the rural communities in her home town before working as in the General Medicine department of Changi General Hospital in Singapore. She is currently serving as Head of the DOTS facility at Jose B. Lingad Memorial General Hospital in Pampanga, a referral clinic handling patients with difficult cases of tuberculosis particularly drug resistant TB.
Her background in Anthropology as an undergraduate degree from the University of the Philippines has helped her immensely in dealing with patients holistically.
Aside from her hospital work, Dr. Flores is also a faculty member of the Level 3 Family Medicine Residency training at Rafael Lazatin Memorial Medical Center. Her passion for teaching is also extended through her role as the Senior Clinical Advisor of the PeerLINC Knowledge Hub. A knowledge hub supported by the TB Alliance in collaboration with Tropical Disease Foundation.
Dr. Flores has presented her work in several local and international conferences, sharing her experience in the treatment and management of drug-resistant tuberculosis in the Philippines.
