Dr. Carmenchu Marie S. Echiverri-Villavicencio is an infectious disease specialist with extensive expertise in infection prevention and control, HIV/AIDS care, tropical medicine, and clinical research. She currently serves as Section Head of the Department of Infectious Disease at St. Luke’s Medical Center, where she also leads the HIV/AIDS Core Team and the Infection Control Committee at St. Luke’s Global City.
Dr. Echiverri-Villavicencio is an active consultant in infectious diseases at both St. Luke’s Medical Center and Makati Medical Center, and previously served as Operations Manager of the TB Laboratory and DOTS Clinic at the Tropical Disease Foundation, where she contributed significantly to tuberculosis control initiatives.
A diplomate of the Philippine Society for Microbiology and Infectious Diseases and the Philippine College of Physicians, Dr. Echiverri-Villavicencio has led multiple international clinical trials on COVID-19 therapeutics and vaccines as Principal Investigator. Her contributions to science include published research on tuberculosis diagnostics and co-authorship in global publications on COVID-19 in Southeast Asia.
Recognized for her leadership during the pandemic, Dr. Echiverri-Villavicencio received the Brave Hearts Award for Service during the COVID Crisis in 2022.
Through her clinical leadership, research, and advocacy, she continues to advance the mission of the Tropical Disease Foundation in combating infectious and tropical diseases in the Philippines.
