Dr. Rose Capeding is a distinguished Filipino pediatric infectious disease specialist, clinical researcher, and scientist internationally recognized for her significant contributions to vaccine research. She has been actively involved in landmark clinical research evaluating the safety, immunogenicity, and efficacy of numerous childhood and adult vaccines. Her research portfolio includes vaccines against Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib), pneumococcal and meningococcal diseases, influenza, BCG, hepatitis A and B, the DTaP-IPV-Hib-HepB combination vaccine, measles-mumps-rubella (MMR), varicella, typhoid, cholera, Japanese encephalitis, rabies, dengue, and COVID-1. Her research accomplishments include publications and presentations in scientific conferences. She is a peer reviewer for several international peer- reviewed medical journals.
She currently holds leadership in national societies and international organizations. She is the immediate past president of the Philippine Foundation for Vaccination and the vice president of the Pediatric Infectious Disease Society of the Philippines. She has been a member of the WPRO Regional Verification Commission for Measles and Rubella Elimination since 2013. She also served as the country lead for the World Bank ASEAN Vaccine Development and Manufacturing Research Project in 2022-23.
Among her many distinctions are the 23rd Dr. Jose P. Rizal Memorial Award for Research from the Philippine Medical Association (PMA); the 2015 Outstanding Professional of the Year Award in Medicine conferred by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC); and the 2015 Eric C. Nubla Excellence Award, the PRC’s highest honor. During the pandemic , she received a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for Community Preparedness in Covid -19 Vaccine Clinical Trials in 2020.
Since joining TDF in June 2019 as Head of the Medical Research Unit (MRU), Dr. Capeding has provided strategic leadership in the design, conduct, and oversight of high-quality clinical research, advancing studies that improve health outcomes in the Philippines and beyond.
