Lung Center of the Philippines

In 2004, the Lung Center of the Philippines (LCP), the TDF and the National center for Disease Prevention and Control (NCDPC) of the Department of Health entered into a Memorandum of Agreement to establish a Housing Facility for MDR-TB in the LCP grounds. Funds to set this facility up came from the DOH budget allocation for LCP including budget to treat 20 paitents.

In January 2005, the first MDR-TB patient was put on treatment in this housing facility with 8 beds. Today, more than 100 MDRs have been enrolled in LCP including out-patient cases.

A tent has been set up outdoors to make infection control easier to handle. DOT is administered by the LCP Clinic staff.

Activities include cooking their own lunch which has become a reason for the camaraderie existing among the patients. They also do bead-making on slippers and sell these items during TB-related events like World TB Day and Annual Convention of the Philippine Coalition against Tuberculosis (PhilCAT).
